Location: Clifton Gardens, Mosman, Sydney
Clifton Gardens is a suburb in Mosman, on Sydney’s north shore. Clifton Gardens Reserve features a gorgeous, sheltered beach, including a section with a shark net. As well as having plenty of facilities, Clifton Gardens is one of the most beautiful beaches in or near Mosman.
The task was to redesign the existing space, to attract more customers by enlarging the number of seating capacity and providing more shade and comfort. The special requirement was to implement a children's play zone on the territory of café for families with young children.
The design outcome for this project extended the café area by building a deck that resembled the old ferry wharf, which was destroyed by fire 100 years ago.
The circular shape of the deck provides a panoramic view of the beautiful surrounding nature. This deck area not only serves as seating space with sufficient shade but also allowed for a children’s playground and additional bathroom facilities in the extension.
The zones are separated by green screen panels, creating privacy and comfort for all the visitors. The materials are carefully selected to fit the surrounding environment. Natural timber, stone, and textile evoke the unique Australian nature and climate influence.
